An early Leica M2, owned and used by known German photographer Arno Fischer. The camera shows significant signs of use but is still in very good working order. Included with the camera is a photobook from Arno Fischer 'Situation Berlin' from 2001, and a provenance letter from Arno Fischer.
Arno Fischer (1927–2011) was a pivotal German photographer whose work spanned several decades. Originating from Berlin's Wedding district, he initially trained in sculpture before dedicating himself to photography around 1950. His seminal series "Situation Berlin" delved into the city's divided essence during 1954-1960 but faced publication delays due to the Berlin Wall's erection, finally seeing the light 42 years after the GDR's collapse. Fischer's influence extends through his teaching and mentoring roles in Leipzig, Berlin, and Dortmund, impacting three generations of photographers across Germany.
